Vanity Pieces

Ecuador Sierra 2011

It's been a long time since my last post, due to various life circumstances, but I'm back with more images. Some of these have already been printed and exhibited, and some have been sold as limited edition giclee prints. As always, I welcome your feedback. Thank you for taking the time to view my work. I hope you enjoy.

Flora de Ecuador: Sin Marcos

FLORA 2

In December 2010, Galeria Kalona in Las Penas, Guayaquil, featured my latest show, Flora de Ecuador: Sin Marcos. The main theme of the images in this show is the flora of Ecuador, with water being the secondary theme. I also snuck in a favourite image of mine from Canada because it compliments the show stopper in this collection.

All of the pieces in this collection have been seen on the blog before, but all but one had never been printed before. Seeing them in large sizes printed in giclee cannot compare to seeing them on a computer screen. Watching them come off the printer at the gallery in Toronto where I print, Proof Studio Gallery in the Distillery District, was a wonderful experience.

The pieces, printed in giclee on cotton paper in various sizes, were shown unframed (sin marcos), and are available for purchase in Galeria Kalona. By not framing, it is easier for tourists to transport the pieces and also allows for the collector to frame to their taste to fit in with their existing decor. All pieces are signed and numbered in limited edition, and can be shipped upon request.

The pieces have been very well recieved; most people are struck by the strong, vibrant colours as well as the composition and quality of the prints. Many people mistake them for paintings.

Many thanks to Isabel and Cuervo for their continued support and love.

Transitions: Two Seasons

Artist of the Month at Grassroots Annex, October 2009

Janice Betts, a Canadian artist who has been living in Ecuador since 2006, has been expressing herself through digital photography since 2005. Janice always looks for hidden beauty. Her inspiration is nature, and she enjoys uncovering the things that people overlook in their everyday lives. Even in urban settings, there are works of art if we take the time to look with conscious eyes. A nature lover and traveller all her life, Janice has long been an environmental and social activist, and with her photography, she wants to remind us of what we are at risk of losing and missing. She wishes to convey a message of joy and hope, and encourage us to connect with our environment.

Janice has had 3 solo exhibits in Ecuador, and has participated in 2 group shows as well as the annual outdoor art fair, Arte en Los Peñas, in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Her work is currently part of collections in Canada, Switzerland, Brazil and Ecuador, and one of her pieces is part of the collection of the Alliance Française Guayaquil. She has been featured in interviews with several Ecuadorian newspaper and TV media outlets, including El Universo, Ecuavisa, and RTS. After travelling extensively in Ecuador, and being nutured by the artistic community of Guayaquil, Janice has returned to Toronto, her Canadian hometown, with renewed energy.

Transitions: Two Seasons is a collection of photographs taken in spring and fall, in the urban settings of Toronto and Montreal. All of the pieces are printed in giclee (fine art quality), signed by the artist, numbered in limited editions, and professionally mounted and framed. Each framed piece from this show sells for $175. Unframed prints are available for $100.

November Update

Big thanks to Grassroots Annex for a successful run as Artist of the Month for October, and thanks to all who visited this site after seeing the exhibit.

There are several pieces from the show available for purchase - just in time for the gift giving season! Don't forget that any image from this site can be ordered in various sizes and custom framed to suit your gift giving needs. I also have other work available; just get in touch if you'd like to see more.

Remember that all pieces are signed and numbered in limited editions, and printed in giclee (find art quality). Order now to avoid problems getting your prints in time, as the gallery will be busy during the lead up to the holidays.
